BJU needed a new pulpit with impossible characteristics. They desired a sense of transparency, yet wanted it opaque. They wanted it to be much smaller than the previous pulpit yet wanted it to feel substantive on the giant stage of Founder’s Memorial Amphitorium.
I designed the new pulpit in SketchUp. Hidden in the simple design are devilishly complex angles than made construction very difficult. Inside the structure is cabling for microphones and computers. It was constructed of walnut and acrylic. The frosted effects and graphics were done with 3M films.
